BTACC BASIC TRAUMA & CASUALTY CARE COURSES IN YORKSHIRE

BTACC stands for Basic Trauma and Casualty Care. It is a practical, scenario-based trauma course for people who may need to recognise and respond to serious injuries before ambulance or other specialist teams arrive. The training focuses on making the scene safe, assessing a casualty, recognising time-critical problems and taking appropriate first-response action within your training.

Plant and Safety Training Yorkshire is based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. We welcome BTACC enquiries from individual delegates, employers and response teams across Yorkshire and the North East. Tell us your workplace hazards and existing first aid training so we can discuss the appropriate course and certification route.

WHAT DOES BTACC TRAINING COVER?

BTACC is part of the ATACC Group’s Integrated Emergency Care Programme. Its published course framework introduces enhanced first aid and trauma response skills through demonstrations, practical exercises and realistic scenarios. The final content and equipment used depend on the current course specification and booked delivery route.

  • Scene safety, the initial approach to an incident and structured casualty assessment.
  • Recognising catastrophic bleeding and applying appropriate first-response bleeding-control techniques.
  • Recognising airway and breathing problems and knowing when to escalate urgently.
  • Recognising serious injuries, shock and changes in a casualty’s condition.
  • Working with other responders, communicating clearly and handing over information to emergency services.
  • Practising decision-making in scenarios suited to higher-risk work environments.

WHO IS BTACC SUITABLE FOR?

BTACC may suit workplace first aiders who need more trauma-specific knowledge, designated emergency-response staff, rescue-support personnel and teams working with plant, construction, engineering or utilities hazards. It may also be appropriate for individuals seeking to build casualty-care confidence. Employers should choose training based on a first aid needs assessment, the responsibilities of the responders and any employer or industry requirements.

HOW LONG IS THE BTACC COURSE?

The ATACC Group lists a two-day initial BTACC course; an extended route covering First Aid at Work equivalency may take longer. Refresher and certification arrangements depend on the chosen specification. We will confirm the length, prerequisites, assessment, qualification and any additional requirements before booking. Do not assume that every BTACC course automatically awards a particular regulated qualification or replaces a workplace First Aid at Work certificate.

BTACC VS RTACC: WHICH SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

BTACC builds essential trauma response skills for first responders and higher-risk workplaces. RTACC is the more advanced rescue trauma and casualty care route, with further emphasis on complex, time-critical incidents. If you need broader workplace first aid rather than specialist trauma response, First Aid at Work may be more suitable.

BTACC stands for Basic Trauma and Casualty Care. The course develops practical first-response skills for serious injury and casualty-care situations.

How long does BTACC training take?

The standard published initial BTACC programme is typically two days. An extended programme may be available if you need additional First Aid at Work content. We confirm your specific route before booking.

Is BTACC suitable for construction and plant teams?

It can be relevant where an employer’s first aid needs assessment identifies a need for trauma-focused training. We can discuss worksite risks and the responders’ responsibilities before recommending a route.

No. BTACC concentrates on core trauma and casualty care; RTACC is a more advanced rescue and casualty-response programme intended for higher-risk or professional response settings. Compare the courses here.

Can BTACC be delivered at our site in Yorkshire?

We can discuss group delivery across Yorkshire and the North East. On-site options depend on suitable facilities, instructors and current course requirements; contact us with your location and number of learners.

Does BTACC give a Level 3 qualification?

A regulated Level 3 BTACC route exists, but the exact awarding and assessment route needs to be confirmed for the course you book. Please ask us which certificate or qualification will be issued.
